Lynda Barack received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 from Eckerd College and graduated from St. Thomas University College of Law in 1996. She worked at the Public Defender's Office in the Sixth Judicial Circuit for five years. During that time, she represented clients on all manner of cases ranging from misdemeanors to first degree felonies. Subsequently, Ms. Barack was employed for two years as a staff attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circiuit, where she was assigned to the criminal division. As a staff attorney, she assisted the six judges in that division with various pretrial and trial matters as well as postconviction motions. Ms. Barack worked as a solo practitioner after leaving the staff attorney's office.
Ms. Barack is a member of the Florida Bar Association, Pinellas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Clearwater Bar Association and the St. Petersburg Bar Association. Thomas McLaughlin received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993 from the University of South Florida and then graduated, cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law in 1998. He worked with Ms. Barack at the Public Defender's Office before accepting a position as a staff attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Clearwater, FL. After four years of working as a staff attorney, Mr. McLaughlin was promoted to Senior Staff Attorney of the Sixth Judicial's Criminal Division where he was responsible for the managment of every postconviction motion filed in Pinellas County. As the Senior Staff Attorney, Mr. McLaughlin worked closely with Court Counsel, the Chief Judge and criminal judges in the Sixth Circuit, and he is very familiar with the procedures and policies with regard to how the Sixth Circuit handles postconviction cases. Prior to forming Barack & McLaughlin with Ms. Barack, Mr. McLaughlin worked as assistant staff counsel at The Florida Bar's Tampa office where he investigated and prosecuted claims of lawyer misconduct. Mr. McLaughlin is a member of the Florida Bar Association, Pinellas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Clearwater Bar Association. Brooke Elvington, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998 from Rollins College and graduated from Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, cum laude, in 2001. Ms. Elvington worked with Ms. Barack at the Public Defender's Office for the Sixth Judicial Circuit for two years before joining the defense team for one of the United States Government's largest federal terrorism cases, United States v. Sami Al Arian, et al. For nearly three years, including a six-month trial, Ms. Elvington acted as counsel for co-defendant, Ghassan Ballut. Through Ms. Elvington's involvement in the Al Arian case, she has been quoted in numerous news sources including, St. Petersburg Times and New York Sun. Ms. Elvington currently dedicates her practice area to state and federal criminal appeal and post-conviction matters. Within the last year alone Ms. Elvington handled approximately fifty direct appeals and post-conviction matters for cases ranging from misdemeanor offenses to first-degree murder. Ms. Elvington is a member of the Florida Bar Association and is admitted to the United States Middle District Court. She is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Clearwater Bar Association and the St. Petersburg Bar Association. |
